How This Old Carny Taught Me The Life Skill Of Mastery

When I was 14 years old, I ran away with the carnival.

One of the first rides I ever worked on was called the Tilt-A-Whirl.

The “Tilt,” as we’d called it, was a ground mount ride. It means there was no trailer under the ride itself. It’s also a one trailer ride, and you have to take everything off the trailer and set it up physically on the ground.

It’s a heavy ride, and it’s all steel.

Since the age of seven years old,
I’d been fascinated with
carnival rides.

It always amazed me how one day there’s an empty parking lot, and the next few days, there’s an entire amusement park there. Every time the carnival would come to town, I would jump on my bike and watch them set up the rides.

The Tilt-A-Whirl was a classic ride that was there every year.

They’d set it up, right in the middle of the street. I’d been watching them set up this ride for over seven years. One early morning I rode my bike down there to see what new rides they had this year.

As I slowly rode by the “Tilt,”
a man was starting to
unload the trailer.

He yelled out, and it startled me.

He said, “Hey, kid, want a job?”

My reply: “Doing what?”

He said: “Setting up this Tilt-A-Whirl.”

My reply: “Heck, yes, that’d be awesome!”

He said: “It doesn’t pay much.”

My reply: “I don’t care; I’ll work for free.”

His reply: “Well, hot dam, you’re hired, Kid!”

That’s how I started my
career in the carnival industry
out of Chicago.

Now, we got so good at moving the “Tilt” that we’d have that thing off the ground and on the road within 90 minutes.

There were five of us, and we’d had mastered our roles. When teardown came every Sunday night, we were slinging steel and rocking-n-rolling.

It was a great lesson
in mastery for me.

Learn everything you can about what you want to do, and work to become the best you can be at it. I’ve applied this lesson throughout my entire life in everything I do.

In regards to building my online business over the last few decades, one of the essential skills to master (in my opinion) is the ability to create strategic content.

Once you know how to do this…

Cranking out high converting
emails, sales letters, audios, videos,
and blog posts become effortless.

And in the January Issue of my CK Insider Newsletter, I’m showing subscribers my unique methods for doing this.

Here’s the deal.

The opportunity to get this issue ends soon.
